Cockpit setup changes
I've been running a 720mm bar with a 100mm stem for two seasons. It worked, but on steep technical descents I always felt like I was fighting the bike rather than steering it.
So I went wider and shorter: 760mm carbon bar, 90mm stem. The difference was immediate.
What changed
720 mm
760 mm
100 mm
90 mm
The wider bar gives more leverage on technical sections. The shorter stem makes the steering quicker without feeling twitchy. On steep descents I have more control and more confidence.
“The right cockpit doesn't make you a better rider. It removes the excuses.”
On climbs, the shorter stem puts me slightly more forward, which helps on steep gradients. The trade-off is slightly less weight on the front wheel on flat corners, but I've adjusted.
Overall, this is the best setup change I've made. Small adjustment, big difference.
